Latest Snow Pushers for Skid Steers and CTLs Help Contractors Clear Parking Lots Faster

As winter approaches, commercial snow removal contractors are preparing for another busy season. Parking lots, shopping centers, industrial facilities and other large paved areas require fast and reliable snow clearing to maintain safe access. For these applications, snow pushers are becoming an increasingly popular attachment for skid steer loaders and compact track loaders (CTLs).

Also known as box plows, snow pushers are designed to collect and move large volumes of snow in a single pass. Unlike conventional angled snow blades that push snow to one side, their box-shaped design helps contain snow and move it directly toward designated storage areas. This makes them particularly effective for clearing large open surfaces.

New Snow Pusher Designs Focus on Durability and Efficiency

Several attachment manufacturers are offering updated designs with features intended to improve snow removal productivity.

Arctic Snow & Ice Products' Sectional Sno-Pushers use independently moving blade sections and spring-loaded trip edges. This allows the attachment to follow uneven pavement and respond to hidden obstacles such as curbs and manhole covers. Its AR400 hardened steel cutting edges and shoes are designed to withstand repeated contact with abrasive surfaces.

Blue Diamond Attachments offers standard and heavy-duty snow pushers in different widths. The heavy-duty versions feature reinforced steel construction, replaceable wear components and adjustable rubber cutting edges to balance durability with surface protection.

BOSS provides box plows with rubber or steel cutting edges, while Erskine Attachments focuses on high-volume snow movement through its box-style design. These products are intended to help contractors move accumulated snow efficiently across commercial properties.

Advanced Features Improve Snow Removal Performance

Other manufacturers are introducing designs that provide greater flexibility in changing winter conditions.

Kage Innovation's SnowFire Xtreme combines a live-edge snowplow with a removable floating snow box. Operators can use the blade for windrowing and backdragging before switching to the box for moving and stacking snow.

Virnig Manufacturing's V60 Snow Pusher is available with rubber or steel cutting edges. Its floating frame and oscillating design help maintain contact with uneven surfaces, while replaceable AR400 skid shoes support longer service life.

Across these products, several features stand out: sectional blades, trip-edge protection, replaceable cutting edges, adjustable skid shoes and reinforced side plates. These components help reduce impact damage, improve surface contact and simplify maintenance.

Choosing the Right Snow Pusher for Your Machine

Selecting an appropriate snow pusher requires more than comparing blade widths. Contractors should consider the carrier machine's operating weight, hydraulic capability, rated operating capacity and attachment compatibility.

An oversized pusher can overload a skid steer or CTL, especially when handling wet, heavy snow. A smaller attachment may be easier to maneuver around parked vehicles, loading docks and narrow access routes.

Surface conditions also matter. Rubber edges are often suitable for sensitive pavement, while hardened steel edges provide more aggressive scraping. For properties with uneven surfaces and hidden obstacles, sectional blades or trip-edge systems can help protect both the attachment and carrier machine.

Keep Compact Equipment Ready for Winter

Snow removal places considerable demands on compact equipment. Continuous pushing, turning and operating on slippery surfaces can accelerate wear on rubber tracks, rollers, sprockets and idlers. Cold temperatures can also affect hydraulic performance and increase the importance of regular inspections.

Before winter operations begin, contractors should check track tension, inspect undercarriage components and replace worn parts to reduce the risk of unexpected downtime.

FL Machinery supplies replacement undercarriage components and other parts for excavators, loaders and dozers. Contact our team with your machine model or part number to identify compatible components and request a quotation.
